Petra Nemcova was born in Karvina on June 24th 1979. She is a famous Czech Republic born famous fashion model.
Petra was spotted during a national talent search, she was just 16 years old, and over the coming years she soon found herself with an agent and featuring on covers of high profile magazines including Sports Illustrated and modelling for Victoria’s secret.
At the 53rd annual Miss Universe competition in Quito, Ecuador 2004 Petra featured as one of the judges.
Petra has suffered a series of misfortunes during her career, one of which almost cost her life. In December 2004 Petra and her Fiancé Simon Atlee were staying in the Khao Lak resort in Thailand when a devastating tsunami struck. The catastrophic event caused her fiancé to drown and she narrowly escaped with her life by holding onto a palm tree until rescue came. She was airlifted to hospital where she was treated for a broken pelvis and internal injuries. Despite this tragedy Petra has managed to make a full recovery and is now putting her career and life back on track. She was awarded a ‘Survivor Award’ by Glamour Magazine and gave her first live interview to Diane Sawyer on March 9th 2005.
Petra appeared in the 2007 FHM calendar as Miss May and has also published a book titled ‘Love Always, Petra.’ In which she speaks about her life, the tsunami and her time with fiancé Simon.
